I had been using Microsoft's Live OneCare. It seemed to have less issues than McAfee or Norton when I first got it, and then I discovered that I only needed 1 subscription for the entire house, I liked that. However no one else seemed to like it, so Microsoft is killing it. Enter Microsoft's new plan:

Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials:

Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

Microsoft Security Essentials is a free* download from Microsoft that is simple to install, easy to use, and always kept up to date so you can be assured your PC is protected by the latest technology. It’s easy to tell if your PC is secure — when you’re green, you’re good. It’s that simple.

Now I'm not sure how a bad selling product being replaced by a free product makes a company more money, but I need to find something to replace the sunsetted Live OneCare so this is as good a place as any to start...

I'd been using AVGFree and I liked it, but it would occasionally run into problems and would report that it was no longer protecting Vista. I switched to the free Norton scan that comes via the Googlepack and it's OK. I haven't had any viruses, but I'll probably check out the MS freebie to see what options it offers. Have you had any time to develop an opinion?

No opinion yet, except I like the price...

Yeah. I liked the price, the quick install and the fact that it covers two bases with virus AND malware protection. The options seem to be better than what Norton or AVG free editions were enabling. So far, so great.
